Toshiba to close computer chip plant in Germany

31 July 2006, DUSSELDORF - Japanese electronics concern Toshiba plans to close its factory in the German city of Braunschweig next July with the loss of 132 jobs. The factory's computer-chip-making operations were being relocated to Asia, a Toshiba electronics spokeswoman said in Dusseldorf. She said the decision to close the factory was made at Toshiba headquarters in Japan after taking into account the needs of Asian clients and the fall-off in demand in Europe.
