Bergkirchen, Germany (dpa) - A speeding truck slammed into a tailback on a freeway near the German city of Munich early Wednesday, killing the truck driver and two occupants of the first car hit.

Police said the Croatian driver, 38, of the semi-trailer and the two motorists, aged 36 and 24, died at the scene of their injuries. Four people survived with injuries.

The driver had probably not noticed that traffic was congested ahead because of road works.

Emergency services were busy for more than seven hours clearing debris from the three trucks and three cars wrecked in the pile-up near Bergkirchen on the north-west side of Munich.
