Three kids left behind as German couple go missing in Italy
The parents vanish after leaving the restaurant to smoke a cigarette.
Rome -- Officials in Italy said Tuesday they had launched a search for a German couple who vanished after they left their three young children in a restaurant saying they were going to smoke a cigarette.
They were last seen ordering pizza at the restaurant in the northern town of Aoste on Sunday evening with their children aged eight months, two and four years, a spokesman for the local authority told AFP.
The family car was also left outside the restaurant.
"We are actively looking for the parents, who may perhaps still be in Italy," said the spokesman.
The three children were being cared for by social services.
