KABUL - Three German soldiers were slightly wounded in an attack by insurgents in Kunduz in northern Afghanistan in the early hours on Wednesday, a Bundeswehr spokesman said in Mazar-i-Sharif.

He said that initially a bomb was detonated, targeting a patrol south of Kunduz. When reinforcements arrived at the scene shortly afterwards, "armed militant forces" opened fire on them. The incident occurred around 1.30 a.m.

The three wounded from the bomb attack were taken to a field hospital in Kunduz. He said both the patrol and the reinforcements had been travelling in armoured vehicles.

It was the second attack within a few hours, after a suicide attacker late Tuesday had targeted a German patrol vehicle, but causing no injuries.
