About 2,000 "Occupy Wall Street" style protesters gathered in Frankfurt Saturday with a crowd of more than 1,000 turning out in Berlin.

Inspired by the US movement and Spain's "Indignants," demonstrators in the capital gathered at the town hall bearing placards with "Occupy Berlin."

In Frankfurt, protesters marched from the city centre on a route taking in the German national bank and the European Central Bank.

The ECB was the site of a major demonstration last Saturday when about 6,000 people turned out to protest at the bank's headquarters. A further 1,500 marched in Berlin.
