MUNICH - Michael Jackson, for years subject to rumours over his sexuality, "loved many women" and had torrid affairs with some, according to excerpts from a new tell-all book by his father Joseph Jackson published in Germany's Bild newspaper Thursday.

The German version of the book, which the elder Jackson said he wrote in order to dispel "falsehoods" about his son, goes on sale 6 September.

The English-language edition is however being withheld pending resolution of lawsuits against the 45-year-old King of Pop.

"For years I have been silent about the girlfriends my son had," Bild quoted him as writing, "but now the time has come to speak out".

Former child star Tatum O'Neal, who won an Academy Award as best supporting actress in 1973 for her role as a street-wise, cigarette- puffing 10-year-old in "Paper Moon", was Michael's "first big love", writes Jackson senior, 75.

Jacko also dated model-turned-actress Brooke Shields, another child celebrity - and another non-black female. "They went steady and he even bought her an enormous diamond ring."

Michael next had an intense affair with a dancer in Jackson's troupe described by his father as being "young and cute and having the heart of a child".

After Jackson's show management was forced to end the affair, the star sought solace in the arms of Princess Stephanie of Monaco. Or so his father claims.

"The two of them even secretly recorded a song together," he writes.

"And once Michael went out with Madonna, but nothing ever came of that."

Publication of the book in the United States has been postponed until his current court battle is resolved. Jackson is free on bail pending his trial on a 10-count indictment that charges him with child molestation and conspiracy, which is scheduled to begin in January. He has pleaded innocent.

The judge in the case refused on Wednesday to lower his USD three million bail, citing evidence that the pop star once planned to flee to Brazil with his young accuser's family.
