Taxi driver holds kidnapped woman in car boot
A taxi driver kidnapped a woman passenger and held her for six hours in the boot of his car before she was rescued by police, authorities in the German port of Hamburg said Monday.
The 57-year-old driver, who was arrested, confessed to the abduction but did not explain his motive, a spokesman for the prosecutor's office said.
He picked up the 32-year-old woman at 6:00 am (0400 GMT) on Sunday in the northern German city's red-light district, police said.
When she realised she was not being driven home, she complained to the driver, who beat her up and locked her up in his boot, police added.
She managed to use her mobile phone to call the police but they were unable to locate her. She was eventually released after passers-by heard her banging from inside the car.
Police said the driver was also suspected of attempting to abduct another woman two hours earlier who managed to escape from his car when he stopped at a red light.
