T-Mobile phone subscribers up 7 percent

27 January 2004 , BONN - Deutsche Telekom's mobile phones division, T-Mobile, announced Tuesday that subscriber numbers last year rose 7.1 percent to 61.0 million. The Bonn-based group said a sales drive by T-Mobile USA produced 1.02 million new U.S. subscriptions in the fourth quarter. That was 51.5 percent more new contracts than in the third quarter. BONN - Deutsche Telekom's mobile phones division, T-Mobile, announced Tuesday that subscriber numbers last year rose 7.1 percent to 61.0 million.

The Bonn-based group said a sales drive by T-Mobile USA produced 1.02 million new U.S. subscriptions in the fourth quarter. That was 51.5 percent more new contracts than in the third quarter.

The US operating division, formerly VoiceStream, has 13.1 million customers.

A year previously, at the end of December 2002, T-Mobile had 53.9 million customers worldwide.
