Divers, teams with dogs and a helicopter were on Friday mobilised in Spain as part of a search for a missing five-year-old German boy, authorities said.

The child was on holiday in the southern Cordoba region with his mother who was found in a state of shock on Tuesday, the civil guard said in a statement.

"She was disoriented and had contusions and scratches as well as obvious signs of dehydration," said the statement, adding that she was unable to tell police what had happened.

Witnesses told police they saw the woman on a fishing trip to a local lake on Sunday with her son. Others said she asked residents for help on Monday because her car had broken down.
