Sixty flights cancelled at Frankfurt aiport due to weather
Wintry weather caused on Wednesday the cancellation of around 60 flights at Frankfurt airport, Europe's third busiest, a spokesman said.
The number of takeoffs on one of the western German airport's runways had to be reduced because of high winds, a spokesman for airport operator Fraport told AFP. On Tuesday almost 300 flights were scratched.
Schools were closed in parts of the northern German state of Schleswig-Holstein, while heavy snow, snowdrifts and fallen trees caused traffic problems elsewhere.
The Bild daily said that it was the coldest December 1 in several hundred years, with temperatures as low as minus 18 degrees Celsius (minus 0.4 degrees Fahrenheit) in some places.
