Siemens is frontrunner for Eurostar train order: source
German industrial group Siemens is the frontrunner to secure a contract to supply Eurostar with high speed trains using the Channel tunnel linking London with Paris and Brussels, a source close to the matter said Friday.
The order with Siemens, which could be worth as much as 600 million euros (824 million dollars) according to the source, would constitute a major setback for French train builder Alstom, the current supplier to Eurostar.
Eurostar operates 28 cross-Channel trains that entered service 16 years ago.
Eurostar declined to comment on the report.
