HAMBURG - World champion Michael Schumacher of Ferrari has said he will wait until next week's final test sessions before passing judgement on whether he can challenge for a record seventh Formula One title in the 2005 season.

"We'll have to wait until the last week of testing before we can judge how competitive we are," said Schumacher on his website, www.michael-schumacher.de.

Schumacher and Ferrari tested this week in Barcelona with the German's fastest lap coming on Thursday with a time of 1 minute 14.913 seconds.

However, Giancarlo Fisichella in Renault recorded a time of 1:14.107 minutes on Friday, the quickest lap of any of the cars competing in the 2005 season, which starts with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 6.

"As always, we have carried out a series of simulated race situations at the busy testing phase at the start of the season and, as always, we don't yet have all the things available that we'll have when he drive in Melbourne," said Schumacher.

"Our car is performing according to our expectations and I'd say we should be in good shape for the first two races."
