20 November 2003 , BERLIN - German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder left on Thursday for a brief visit to New York to meet with top-ranking American business executives. The Berlin leader will also be the guest speaker at ceremonies in which US banker Sanford Weill will be handed the "Global Leadership Award". The chancellor's office said Schroeder would speak on the opportunities and challenges in the global economy. BERLIN - German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder left on Thursday for a brief visit to New York to meet with top-ranking American business executives.

The Berlin leader will also be the guest speaker at ceremonies in which US banker Sanford Weill will be handed the "Global Leadership Award". The chancellor's office said Schroeder would speak on the opportunities and challenges in the global economy.

Schroeder, together with Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer, who has been in the United States since Monday, is also to meet with representatives of Jewish groups.

Fischer is meeting separately on Thursday with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.

The German chancellor was last in New York in September to speak to the UN General Assembly. He briefly met US President George Bush on the periphery of the UN meeting.
