Three more people have reported falling ill after drinking spiked schnapps at a Berlin Christmas market, bringing the toll to 10, police said Monday.

Among them are a 31-year-old woman and her 33-year-old companion, who said that a man offered them a drink of schnapps last Wednesday asking them to toast the birth of his child.

Soon afterwards the couple became nauseated and the woman vomited, a similar plight that afflicted seven other people, some requiring hospital treatement, last week.

"We're investigating, but we have no concrete clues (as to the culprit)," a police spokeswoman said.

The Christmas market is an age-old German tradition, providing a meeting place for colleagues, friends or family members to share a drink, notably mulled wine.

The other victims were approached at three different Christmas markets in Berlin last week.
