BERLIN (AP) _ A suspected right-wing extremist suffered severe burns when a pipe bomb that he was building exploded, police said Thursday.
The 20-year-old man, whose name was not given, was using various highly explosive chemicals to make the bomb at his home late Wednesday when the device exploded, said Petra Kirsch, a spokeswoman for police.
He suffered serious burns over his entire body and was taken to the hospital where he was being kept in an artificial coma.
Right-wing propaganda and more explosive chemicals were found in his home. Kirsch said it was too soon to say whether the suspect had any ties to terrorist groups.
She said that the man lived on the ground floor of an apartment building, but that no one else was at home at the time of the explosion.
