17 July 2007, Los Angeles (dpa) - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix earned some 330 million dollars around the world on its opening weekend as it played in a massive 12,000 cinemas, Variety reported Monday.

Los Angeles (dpa) - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix earned some 330 million dollars around the world on its opening weekend as it played in a massive 12,000 cinemas, Variety reported Monday.

The launch of the fifth movie in the series about the boy magician was the biggest international opening ever, trailing only Spider-Man 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. The movie earned 140 million dollars in the US and a further 190 million dollars internationally.

The report said that the movie finished first in all 61 markets in which it opened.

It set the record for the biggest four-day launch in Britain at 32.5 million dollars. It also earned 10 million dollars in Mexico, 7.1 million dollars in Brazil, 14.4 million dollars in Australia, 12.1 million dollars in South Korea and 11 million dollars in Italy.

The movie also registered the best opening of the year in Germany where it earned 18.7 million dollars.

The opening weekend was the most successful of all Potter films to date, bringing the series' international take to 3.9 billion dollars.
