REGENSBURG, GERMANY - Father Georg Ratzinger, the 81-year- old brother of Pope Benedict XVI, is likely to be discharged from a German hospital within days after being admitted with chest pains, doctors said Thursday.

The pontiff's elder brother, himself a Catholic priest, was hospitalized Wednesday with an erratic heartbeat at Brothers of Mercy Hospital in Regensburg in Bavaria. Hospital doctors said they needed to do more tests before deciding if he could go home by the weekend.

"Given his condition, he's fairly well," said a hospital spokeswoman. He was stable and not in any danger.

Just last month during a visit to his brother, Georg Ratzinger was rushed to a hospital in Rome where he was fitted with a new pacemaker at the Gemelli Clinic. Father Georg is the pontiff's only close living relative. Their sister Maria died childless.

As director of music, Georg Ratzinger headed the boys' choir at Regensburg Cathedral for three decades till retiring in 1994.
