Pope's book of interviews due out by year's end
Pope Benedict XVI's first book of interviews since being elected in 2005 will come out "before the end of the current year," the Vatican's spokesman Federico Lombardi said on Tuesday.
The interviews, conducted in German by journalist Peter Seewald, deal with "various subjects" and were carried out between July 26 and 31 at the pope's summer residence in Castel Gandolfo near Rome, Lombardi said in a statement.
Two books of interviews conducted by Seewald with then German Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger before he was elected pope have already been published.
The new book will be released by the end of 2010 in Italian and German and possibly in other languages.
Since his election, Pope Benedict has written and published in 2007 "Jesus of Nazareth," a book on the life of Jesus Christ between his baptism and his transfiguration, an episode in the Bible when Jesus shows his divine nature.
He has also completed the writing of a book on Jesus' passion and resurrection, the final part of Jesus' life, which is set to be released in the spring of 2011 and in July he has began writing his third book, dealing with Jesus' infancy and adolescence.
