Polish bus crashes in Germany, 11 dead: fire brigade
Eleven people were killed Sunday and seven were in a critical condition after a Polish coach crashed into a bridge on a wet motorway south of Berlin, emergency services said.
"Eleven people have been killed, seven were very seriously hurt and 22 have grave or light injuries," a spokesman for the fire brigade told AFP after the accident near the Schoenefelder Kreuz motorway junction.
A spokesman for the police in nearby Frankfurt an der Oder said that the bus hit a bridge pillar after swerving to avoid a car joining the motorway, not far from Berlin's Schoenefeld airport.
Some 250 members of the fire brigade were at the scene, supported by helicopters and police. The motorway was closed after the accident.
The nationalities of those killed or injured was not clear. Reports said that the coach had 46 people on board.
