Police hunt for armed man at Berlin school
Police officers search a Berlin school after warnings of an armed man seen thereBerlin -- German police searched a sprawling central city Berlin school in vain on Tuesday after an anonymous phone call claiming that an armed man had been seen in one of the buildings.
After the alert was lifted, police said they wanted to question a blonde man aged 20-25, who was heard by pupils threatening to kill someone.
They were also seeking a dark-haired female pupil with whom the man and a companion were seen conversing before the alleged threat.
The pupils of the business studies school were evacuated during the incident. Ambulances waited outside and a police helicopter kept a watch on the site in the Kreuzberg neighbourhood from the air as 100 armed officers spent four hours checking every classroom.
Television news teams provided minute-by-minute coverage from the campus, where 6,000 children over the age of 15 attend the business studies college and several other specialised schools.
