MOENCHENGLADBACH - A court in Germany has slapped a nine-year prison sentence on a man who set up an illicit drugs trafficking operation along the lines of a pizza delivery service.

The unidentified dealer used a switchboard to take orders for marijuana and hashish and hired drivers to deliver the illegal goods to the homes of customers, the court said.

His phone operator and one of the drivers have already been sentenced to lesser terms for their part in the EUR 1.14 million business in the Rhine Valley town of Heinsberg.

The 40-year-old man's holdings, including a fleet of delivery vans worth about EUR 260,000 were ordered confiscated.
