26 September 2005, BERLIN - Philip Manyim of Kenya and Mizuki Noguchi of Japan were the men's and women's winners, respectively, of the 32nd Berlin Marathon on Sunday.

BERLIN - Philip Manyim of Kenya and Mizuki Noguchi of Japan were the men's and women's winners, respectively, of the 32nd Berlin Marathon on Sunday.

Manyim clocked a time of 2 hours, 7 minutes, 41 seconds (2:07:41) to lead a Kenyan sweep of the top three spots over the 42.195- kilometre distance. He was followed by Peter Chebet and Jackson Koech.

Noguchi, the marathon gold medallist at the Athens 2004 Olympics, lived up to her role as top favourite, setting a new Asian record time of 2 hours, 19 minutes, 12 seconds (2:19:12) to finish well ahead of runner-up Luminita Zaituc of Germany and Asale Tafa from Ethiopia.

Manyim and Noguchi each won EUR 40,000 for their victories in Germany's premier marathon event.
