The boy, who had been arguing with an older pupil from the same school, injured nobody in the fire.

Oslo -- A nine-year-old pupil in Norway fired two shots with a hunting rifle in his school's playground in the northern city of Harstad injuring no one, police said Tuesday.

"At 8:35 am (0635 GMT), we received a message from a pupil saying that two shots had been fired by another student in the playground," Magne Hugo Nilsen, a Harstad police official, told the Verdens Gang (VG) newspaper's online edition.

He said no one was injured.

Norwegian media reports said teachers stepped in to disarm the boy, who had been arguing with an older pupil from the same school.

The incident comes less than two months after a deadly shooting in the German town of Winnenden when a teenage student killed nine fellow pupils, three teachers and three passers-by before turning the gun on himself.
