GERA, GERMANY - A German woman was jailed Thursday for nine years for the manslaughter of two of her newborn babies whose tiny bodies were found set into a concrete floor of the family's home.

Judges ruled that Sabine K, a 44-year-old kindergarten teacher and mother of two, had killed her subsequent children directly after birth in 1992 and 1994 in the town of Altenburg, eastern Germany.

Her husband, who set the bodies in basement concrete and placed a boiler and a washing machine over them, was not charged. Police said the burials were not a crime and there was no evidence he took part in the killings.

Described in court in the city of Gera as a wife-beater and drunk every day, he turned in his wife after she said she was leaving him.

K, who was supported at the trial by her two adult daughters, shook from head to foot as presiding judge Reinhard Maul said, "You killed your children because you could not cope any more." K, who claimed the two girls were stillborn, is to appeal.
