Night kidney transplants riskier than daytime operations
Study by a team of German scientists suggests that kidney transplants are more dangerous at night
Bonn -- Kidney transplants at night are twice as likely to lead to a corrective follow-up operation as those in the daytime, a team of German scientists said Tuesday after a study.
Guido Fechner and Stefan Mueller, who surveyed 260 operations, said there were complications with 16 percent of "night kidneys" but only 6 percent of daytime operations. They said the reason was probably that surgeons were more alert and careful by day.
