3 March 2005, BERLIN - Half of all seats in restaurants throughout Germany will be set aside for non-smokers under voluntary guidelines agreed on by government and industry leaders in Berlin on Wednesday. The guidelines, adopted by the German Hotel and Restaurant Owners Association (DEHOGA), will come into effect on 1 March 2008. BERLIN - Half of all seats in restaurants throughout Germany will be set aside for non-smokers under voluntary guidelines agreed on by government and industry leaders in Berlin on Wednesday.

The guidelines, adopted by the German Hotel and Restaurant Owners Association (DEHOGA), will come into effect on 1 March 2008.

Proposed by the federal Health Ministry, the guidelines have no provision for fines for offenders. In addition, no restrictions will be placed on smoking in bars, pubs and music clubs.
