A verdict in the high-profile trial of alleged Nazi death camp guard John Demjanjuk is "planned" for May 12, the German court handling the case said on Thursday.

"A date for the handing down of a ruling has not been set yet. The court is planning, however, to announce the verdict on May 12 at 10:00 am (0800 GMT)," the court in Munich said in a statement.

Prosecutors have called for Ukrainian-born Demjanjuk, 91, to be jailed for six years for 27,900 counts of accessory to murder while a guard at the Sobibor death camp in German-occupied Poland in 1943. He denies the charges.
