Dresden - Police cleared a fast-food chain restaurant in the German city of Dresden on Tuesday after 19 people mysteriously developed rashes in their mouths and choking sensations in the airways.

Ambulance doctors treated them on the spot and none were admitted to hospital.

Investigators took air and dust samples from the sealed McDonald's restaurant and checked the ventilation system.

Police said it was possible there had been a build-up of construction chemicals indoors after recent rebuilding work. The restaurant was to remain closed overnight.

A police spokesman in the eastern city added that there was no evidence of any deliberate chemical attack.
