Moeckmuehl (dpa) - A German mother's attempt to gain tax relief for raising her children by registering a business for "breeding and caring for mammals" failed when the environmental authorities insisted on checking on the mammals.

Police in the south-western city of Heilbronn said Tuesday that the unnamed 38-year-old woman, who lives in the nearby village of Moeckmuehl, had admitted that the mammals in question were in fact her children.

Her application to register the business would be turned down, they said.
