SALZBURG, AUSTRIA - German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said Saturday the late Serbian leader Slobodan Milosevic stood for human rights violations which continued to haunt the world to this day.

"Milosevic is and was a man of the past who was responsible for human rights violations and has many victims on his conscience," said Steinmeier at a meeting of European Union foreign ministers.

He said the consequences of Milosevic's actions were still impacting on European politics.

"The death of Milosevic must not be allowed to hold us up in the Western Balkans. We must redouble our efforts aimed at peace and stability in the (region)," he said.
