Merkel to host chiefs of world economic organisations
The leaders of the chief international economic organisations will gather in Berlin Thursday for talks on the threats to the global financial system, a German government spokesman said.
The spokesman, Georg Streiter, told a regular briefing Friday that German Chancellor Angela Merkel would host the heads of the European Central Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the OECD and G20 representatives.
He said the talks would revolve around "risks to the global economy that have been laid bare in the financial crisis".
Streiter added that the meeting, which will include the finance ministers of France and Mexico, was also intended to prepare a summit of the Group of 20 November 3-4 in Cannes, southern France.
The group will hold a press conference at 1500 GMT after its meeting, followed by further talks in the evening bringing in the head of the International Labour Organisation.
"This discussion will cover the role of international organisations in managing globalisation, for example trade policy, as well as the transformation process in North Africa and new concepts for creating economic wealth and growth," Streiter said.
