Merkel to address parliament ahead of euro summit
Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel will brief parliament on her government's position ahead of Sunday's European Union summit, her spokesman Steffan Seibert said Monday.
"It is most likely she will make her statement on Friday," he told a regular news conference.
Seibert sought to dampen expectations of Sunday's Brussels' summit, saying that a package of measures to be discussed by European leaders would not immediately resolve all outstanding problems related to the current euro crisis.
"Dreams that everything will be resolved and dealt with by next Monday cannot be fulfilled," he said.
Decisions to be taken on Sunday will be part and parcel of "important measures to be taken over the long term, and this long term is likely to last into next year," he said.
