Germany's pro-business Free Democrats (FDP), junior partners in Chancellor Angela Merkel's ruling coalition, on Tuesday designated Philipp Roesler as economy minister.

Roesler, 38, adopted from a Vietnamese orphanage by a German couple, is currently health minister. He is also due to be elected FDP leader on Friday and take over from outgoing head Guido Westerwelle as deputy chancellor.
