Athens (dpa) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel arrived in Athens for a one-day visit Friday for talks with Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis.

Merkel was welcomed at Athens' International Airport by Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyianni and immediately left for the Greek prime ministers' residence.

The two leaders will discuss European Union relations with Turkey and Cyprus, Kosovo, and Greek interest in the European fighter aircraft, Typhoon.

Greek officials said a focus of the talks would be the possible procurement by Greece of Eurofighters.

The chancellor was also to deliver a speech to the Greek-German Chamber of Commerce during her brief visit and hold talks with Greek President Carolos Papoulias.
