Cologne, Germany (dpa) - A German media personality has been dropped by a major television station for unflattering remarks he made about a female Turkish colleague.

West German Radio (WDR) said Manes Meckenstock had been axed from the entertainment show Room Free for his comments about Viva music channel presenter Guelcan Kamps.

In his own radio programme, Meckenstock mentioned Kamps in the same breath as the 1935 Nuremburg Race Laws which deprived German Jews of their citizenship and prohibited them from marrying or having sexual relations with persons of "German or related blood."

"Whenever I see Guelcan, I regret that the Nuremberg Race Laws are no longer in effect," said Meckenstock, who later apologized for his comments and distanced himself from Nazi ideology.

Guelcan starred in a reality television show about the preparations for her recent wedding to German bakery heir Sebastian Kamps.
