Lufthansa passenger, cargo traffic climbs in July
German airline Lufthansa said Tuesday that it carried 5.75 million passengers in July, up 10.3 percent from a year earlier as clouds began to lift over the sector.
For the entire Lufthansa group, which includes Austrian Airlines, BMI and Swiss, traffic numbers jumped 21 percent to 8.8 million passengers, a statement said.
Results from Austrian Airlines and BMI were not included in the previous year's figure and when adjusted accordingly, group passenger numbers gained 5.4 percent.
Lufthansa is the biggest European airline group in terms of the number of passengers.
The carrier's load factor, the average rate at which it filled seats in its planes, gained 1.3 percentage points to 84.7 percent as the summer travel season picked up.
Cargo operations also reported a solid increase of 19 percent in July to 161,000 tonnes as Austrian Airlines' freight capacity was included in the group's total as of July 1.
