5 October 2004 , TEL AVIV - A Lufthansa passenger aircraft which took off from Germany enroute to Israel was diverted to Cyprus Tuesday after authorities received a warning that there were explosives on board, Israel Army Radio reported. Israeli fighter jets were scrambled to intercept the Boeing 747 and prevent it from entering Israeli airspace. TEL AVIV - A Lufthansa passenger aircraft which took off from Germany enroute to Israel was diverted to Cyprus Tuesday after authorities received a warning that there were explosives on board, Israel Army Radio reported.

Israeli fighter jets were scrambled to intercept the Boeing 747 and prevent it from entering Israeli airspace.

The aircraft, Flight LH686, with 331 passengers on board, made an emergency landing in Larnaca, where it was checked to see if the explosives were actually on board.

The bomb threat had been received by Lufthansa's Frankfurt office, Israel Radio's broadcast monitor said.
