Stendal, Germany (dpa) - A German woman was jailed Thursday for seven years for the manslaughter of three babies.

Her husband discovered the newborns' remains in plastic bags in cartons in the attic during a house move last year. He told the court in the eastern town of Stendal he had no idea his wife had been pregnant.

The couple, who have separated, were raising two children, now 3 and 18.

Sentencing the accused, 38, judge Gerd Henss said her husband had not wanted any more children, yet she had avoided abortions in the hope that he would relent, then killed the babies to avoid a row with him.
