Berlin (dpa) - Germany and Israel are boosting military communications after Israeli jets buzzed German naval vessels serving with United Nations peacekeepers off the Lebanon's coast, officials said Tuesday.

Germany's defence ministry says Israeli warplanes fired shots during one of the three flyovers in recent days.

The Israeli ambassador to Germany, Shimon Stein, has denied that any shots were fired.

Spokesmen for Chancellor Angela Merkel and the defence ministry said expanded military communications had been agreed between Israel and Germany to prevent any further such incidents.

Germany has sent naval ships to serve with the expanded UNIFIL peacekeeping force in Lebanon following last summer's conflict between Israel and Hezbollah militants.
