BERLIN - Germans love of hurtling along their nation's network of super highways without restrictions appears likely to continue with the government rejecting Friday imposing speed limits on the  country's Autobahn system.

"A general speed limit is not an appropriate way to improve the traffic flow," said Transport Minister Manfred Stolpe in an interview with the Cologne Express newspaper.

Large sections of the Autobahn have no speed limit and Porsches, BMWs and Mercedes whizz by at speeds over 200 kilometres per hour - at least when they're not stuck in traffic jams.
