Germany's Siemens hires former NATO commander
German engineering giant Siemens, eyeing more US government contracts, said Monday it has hired General Stanley McChrystal, the American former commander of NATO troops in Afghanistan.
McChrystal, who left his post last year, has been appointed chairman of the board of a newly created Siemens company dedicated to supplying equipment to the United States, a company statement said.
Siemens called him "one of the most notable military figures of this generation."
Siemens Government Technologies will focus on supplying healthcare facilities, shifting to cleaner energy, improving energy efficiency and modernising infrastructure and transport systems, it said.
McChrystal was recalled by President Barack Obama from his role leading NATO troops in the war against the Taliban over comments made by him and his aides about senior political leaders to Rolling Stone magazine.
