BERLIN - The German government has warned its citizens to take certain precautions when visiting Islamic countries following the recent spate of demonstrations and unrest triggered by cartoons in a Danish newspaper.

The Foreign Office in Berlin said crowds and demonstrations should be avoided and that visitors should keep a low profile.

It said developments in certain countries such as Iran, Lebanon and Syria should be closely monitored.
