Germany expels Islamic preacher
Germany has ordered a hardline Islamic preacher from Jamaica to leave the country within three days, police said on Thursday.
Authorities ordered the expulsion of Bilal Philips, who was born in 1947 in Jamaica but grew up in Canada, after a gathering of Islamists in Frankfurt on Wednesday, police said.
Philips has attracted widespread criticism over his extremist views on homosexuality and he has also defended public executions.
According to quotes on his website, Philips believes that "homosexuality is evil and dangerous to society" and he also argues that public executions "keep crime levels down".
The decision comes after a long campaign for his expulsion by Volker Beck, a gay rights activist who is Philips' member of parliament.
