Germany bans largest neo-Nazi group: ministry
Germany on Wednesday banned with immediate effect the country's largest neo-Nazi association, which offers assistance to prison inmates, the interior ministry said.
The government outlawed the group which calls itself a charity, Help Organisation for National Political Prisoners and Their Dependents (HNG), on the orders of Interior Minister Hans-Peter Friedrich.
"It is no longer tolerable for right-wing extremists in prison to be supported by the HNG in their aggressive stance against our free, democratic system," Friedrich said.
German authorities say the group, which was founded in 1979, has about 600 members and espouses a racist, anti-Semitic agenda.
