Nuremberg, Germany (dpa) - German unemployment remained at 9.6 percent in December, the federal labour office said Wednesday.
In the market-sensitive seasonally adjusted terms, German unemployment fell by 108,000 to 4,115,000 in December, the data showed.
However, the more politically important seasonally unadjusted figures showed the numbers out of work in Europe's biggest economy climbing by 12,000 from November to about 4,008,000 in December.
This was a rather modest rise considering the normal jump in the jobless numbers in Germany during the winter months.
In seasonally unadjusted terms, unemployment in December was 597,000 less than in the same month last year. A year ago, the unemployment rate stood at 11.1 per cent.
