German teenager held after mum found killed with axe
Police found the 17-year-old drunk outside the flat and arrested him after discovering the dead body of his 54-year-old mother, as well as an axe covered in blood.
Berlin -- A 17-year-old was remanded in custody in Germany on Sunday on suspicion of hacking his mother to death with an axe as she lay in bed, prosecutors said.
The teenager from Linden phoned his father in nearby Frankfurt on Saturday at 3.20 a.m. local time saying that "something terrible has happened and mum is dead," prosecutors said in a statement.
Shortly afterwards police found the 17-year-old drunk outside the flat and arrested him after discovering the dead body of his 54-year-old mother, as well as an axe covered in blood.
Doctors established the cause of death of the "unsuspecting and defenceless" woman, who lived apart from her husband, as being from numerous blows to the neck and back of the head with an axe, prosecutors said Sunday.
The teenager and his lawyer made no comment as he appeared before an investigating judge before being sent to a young offender's institution pending further investigation.
