2 August 2005, LONDON - Germany's Christof Wandratsch Monday broke the record for swimming the English Channel when he crossed the waterway between Dover in southern Britain and Calais on the northern French coast in just over seven hours.

LONDON - Germany's Christof Wandratsch Monday broke the record for swimming the English Channel when he crossed the waterway between Dover in southern Britain and Calais on the northern French coast in just over seven hours.

The 38-year-old German trimmed the previous 1994 record for swimming the 32 kilometres Channel by 14 minutes, completing the feat in seven hours and three minutes, the Channel Swimming and Piloting Federation said.
