Offenburg, Germany (dpa) - An 18-year old student, described by police as an "introverted loner," was found dead in a woods Wednesday after a two-day search by police who had been alarmed after an internet warning that a student was planning an attack.

Police searched three schools in southern Germany on Wednesday, following the internet warning, but later found the young man who had appeared to have taken his own life. He had been missing since Monday.

Two fellow students alerted police after an an anonymous player told them during an internet game that he planned to attack a school.

The 18-year-old was a pupil at a local college, but had previously attended two other schools in the Offenburg area of Baden- Wuerttemberg state.

Police searched pupils of all three schools when they arrived for lessons on Wednesday and kept a vigil outside the buildings.

The incident came barely two weeks after that of November 20, when an 18-year-old youth went on a shooting spree at his former school at Emsdetten, on Germany's Dutch border, wounding five people before shooting himself dead.

A week later police questioned teenagers in Berlin and a town on the French border after they made threats on the internet to attack schools.

A search of the home of the Berlin teenager turned up an arsenal of 13 imitation guns.
