German sport gets a pay rise from Berlin

24 November 2004 , BERLIN - The German government has set aside EUR 133 million for sports in 2005, up from 119 million this year, interior minister Otto Schily said on Wednesday. Schily said that the increase will ensure perfect conditions for the nation's top athletes as they prepare for major events such as the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin.

The sum includes EUR 71.4 million for sports federations and training centres, EUR 24.9 million for venues, and the German contribution of EUR 541,000 for the funding of the World Anti- Doping Agency.
