German priest suspended over child sex images
Catholic authorities announce the suspension of a priest expected to face charges over child sex images found on his computerBielefeld -- Catholic authorities disclosed the suspension of a 49-year-old priest on Tuesday, who is expected to face criminal charges after police found child sex photographs on his computer.
The clergyman was removed in November, following complaints, a month before a police raid on the man in December, said Aegidius Engel, a spokesman for the Catholic archdiocese of Paderborn in the north of Germany.
Police detected 250 offensive photos on the computer used by the priest in the city of Bielefeld, a prosecutor, Reinhard Baumgart, said. An inquiry is continuing and a decision has not yet been taken on any indictment.
